Installing A Garage Door Opener
Human beings are very inventive creatures and this is a crucial characteristic that aided us in becoming the
dominant species. People have constantly and will always try to come up or invent something, a tool of sorts that
will either make a certain action easier, safer or that will just make their lives more convenient; and garage door
openers are an ideal example of that sort of mind-set.
When you’re looking to buy a garage door opener, you’ll find that by far the most common type of door opener
available has the motor mounted over the area where you usually park your car. This is a very effective and
functional design and is meant to support the entire weight of heavy-duty doors. This is a design that has
withstood the test of time and is the most basic when it comes to door openers.
As the years passed and various technologies advanced and some new ones came to be many innovations have been
made to this basic design in order to make sure that each person is satisfied with the garage door opener that they
buy.
When you buy a new garage door opener it will usually come with all new parts including wall switch, two remotes
and in some cases even an exterior mounted switch with buttons where a private code can be entered to open and
close the garage door.
Probably the first thing that you'll need to do is to put together the track. The track usually comes divided into
three pieces but as you’ll find out it will be easy to put together and then link to the front part of the machine
all you have to do is to pay attention and follow your model’s specific directions.
The next item on the list would be to lift the door opener to the garage ceiling and at this moment in time a
seven foot ladder will be necessary. Use the ladder to keep the opener in the right place while preparing the
required anchoring. This is also usually the moment when you can include a simple rubber mechanism between the
system and the drywall which will notably reduce any possible vibration.
Then you’ll have to link the door part of the operator to the door header that is situated above the whole span
of the garage door by using lag bolts. At about this point you should’ve already installed the belt or the chain
that will transfer the movement from the motor to the door when it is turned on.
Most of the difficult work has been done by now, now what you have to do is to run the wire, that will link the
garage door opener to the interior switch. Some models of switches use radio signals so this part of the
installation may not be necessary it all depends on the model you purchase.
Usually you’ll have to adjust a newly installed garage door opener. This doesn’t mean you did anything wrong
just that some doors are heavier than others and that some springs used to help open the garage door are stronger
than others.
